"The Photos Alone are Reason Enough to get Married!"

Hello we are Heather and Jon Almeda of One Love Photo. I'm Heather the one behind the blog, and Jon is the dedicated editor. We have been married for six years, together for sixteen and have been friends since sixth grade. In school we both took art classes at the same time. While I was hiding out in the darkroom, Jon was bent over a pottery wheel. We always help each other critique our art and encourage one another to try new tools and techniques. One of the coolest things we have done is combine our talents together to photograph weddings all over the country as "One Love Photo". We both bring something different to the table, yet we share a similar aesthetic vision which gives our images a cohesive look.

We capture weddings using a combination of cameras and techniques. In addition to using digital gear, we also shoot with a Hasselblad medium format film camera, vintage 35mm lenses and homemade custom lenses. Images shot with our film cameras and lenses have their own look and feel. Some produce beautiful vignettes, some are square, and some make things soft and dreamy.

Thank you for looking at our work!

We have been married for almost five years, together for fifteen and have been friends since sixth grade. In high school we both took independent art study classes at the same time. While I was hiding out in the darkroom most of my senior year, Jon was covered in clay over in the pottery studio. One of the biggest things we have done together as a couple is to merge our skills and talents to photograph weddings all over the country as "One Love Photo". We both bring something very different to the table, yet we share a similar aesthetic vision which gives our images a cohesive look.

I fell in love with photography when I was fourteen and I shot my first wedding when I was fifteen. I don't know life without a camera, it's the one and only consistent interest I have had in my life. I love shooting film, manual focus, and composing in a square. I studied commercial photography at the Art Institute. I did a fair amount of editorial work in my early twenties for local magazines. In 2000 I was honored to have a book published by Chronicle Books featuring my photographs, titled "Up to No Good". In 2003 I became a full time photography teacher at Stadium High School. Teaching was an incredible experience and I walked away from it a much stronger person and artist. While I was teaching I started to shoot weddings during my summers off and quickly realized that this was what I wanted to do full time. I asked Jon if he would be my photo partner and once he joined me our wedding work really took off. In addition to wedding photography I love making portraits of children and also creating mixed media beeswax pieces with our images. Recently I've started to experiment with oil paint and am loving the medium.

Jon brings so much to our photography business. He has created his own set of homemade lenses and is always thinking of new ways to approach wedding photography. He has a keen eye for creative compositions and constantly challenges me to try new things. Before Jon started shooting weddings he was working full time making miniature pottery. We have traveled all over the country and to Europe showing Jon's pottery. This winter he has started working in a brand new medium and his pottery studio has been taken over with cardboard boxes, x-acto blades and glue. You can check out his incredible new artwork work on his website, {JonAlmeda.com} And if all that talent wasn't enough he is also an AMAZING musician!

PORTRAIT COMMISSION WORK:
I love making beautiful portraits of children. In 2000 I worked on a book that was published by Chronicle Books titled "Up to No Good". The book featured over 100 of my black and white portraits of young boys being their "rascally candid selves". While working on this project, I began to truly appreciate the beauty in capturing children as naturally and authentically as possible.

With my portrait work my goal is to capture children in a natural yet artistic way. To not focus on matching shirts or perfectly combed hair, but to relish in the beauty of ordinary living. To photograph children with messy hair as they wake from a nap. To capture true smiles as they giggle and build an afternoon fort. This approach to photography takes trust, time and patience. Most sessions last between 3-5 hours and are at your home or a location of your choice. Sessions start at $600, please contact me for more information.

I just got your little Hasselblad preview package in the mail. My mind is blown. My heart melts. The pictures are amazing. You are too too kind. There are sooooooo many incredible shots in here. Not only am I transported emotionally and visually to the joy of my own experiences on that day, but to see all these moments that I never knew about and see all the joy and heart-buoyancy of all our friends and family -- it's too wonderful for words!

If I haven't said it yet, let me say it now: We are SO glad that we found you and that you guys shot our wedding. We are telling everyone we know: if you need the absolute best photographer for your wedding, it's hands down One Love Photo.

thank you!!

David & Jennifer

Thank you both for creating pure photo magic for us! I've now watched the slideshow about 8x and sobbed about 8x with happiness. You're both totally BRILLIANT! It's beyond fabulous... seriously, there are not enough adjectives to completely describe my flat out LOVE for your amazing talent and awesomeness.

Thank you thank you thank you! I'm sure I'll say thank you like 10 million times more, but seriously - you both are a delight and I am thrilled you were with us on our wedding day.

Much Love,
April & Thomas
